General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets customers with eye contact, smiles, and courtesy; treats fellow associates with respect; follows best‑practice standards; maintains a clean work area; and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Retail Associate performs a range of functions in all areas of the store as business needs require and may be requested to perform additional tasks that help achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential

Functions
  • Safety first: practice safe behaviors and correct or report unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain a clear, clutter‑free sales floor and safe egress to emergency exits.
  • Show respect and courtesy to all customers and associates.
  • Be register‑trained, assist customers with merchandise, answer questions politely and knowledgeably.
  • Handle customer service calls immediately and address issues courteously, calling leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks: sweep, mop, dust, wipe counters and mirrors, replenish restroom supplies, and disinfect high‑touch areas.
  • Adhere to the company’s dress code and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Complete daily assigned sizing and recovery per best practice.
  • Expedite new merchandise receipts with urgency, merchandising per guidelines.
  • Understand loss prevention and loss‑control programs, including the Shortage Highway and Store Protection Specialist position where applicable.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise.
  • Follow Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies and process disposals appropriately.
  • Handle all cash, check, charge‑card, and refund transactions accurately.
  • Maximize productivity through efficient workflow and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and leadership in a friendly and respectful manner.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
Physical Requirements / ADA Compliance
  • Use all store equipment (PDTs, registers, PC) as required.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store 100% of the working time.
  • Bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
  • Pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
  • May require additional qualifications for specific assignments.
  • Stockroom shift associates must regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 pounds.
