OverviewUnited Veterinary Care is excited to host veterinary students for externships, offering hands‑on experience in a full‑time general practice in Sunny Florida. All externships are designed for AVMA‑accredited veterinary students in their clinical years (3rd or 4th year) and include a stipend to help offset travel and lodging costs.
Eligibility Requirements- Current veterinary student at an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school.
- Priority given to students in clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit.
- Proof of professional liability insurance (SAVMA members qualify for no‑cost insurance via a provided link).
Longwood Veterinary Clinic is located just outside Orlando, FL, in a suburban community. We are a trusted provider of veterinary care to the local community, with a focus on client education and comprehensive service. Our team of full‑time doctors and support staff are eager to mentor interns and interns are encouraged to participate actively.

During your externship, you will actively participate in cases under the supervision of an experienced veterinarian and support staff. Expect to be involved in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient work‑ups, and routine medical appointments. You will conduct preliminary exams, formulate diagnostic and treatment plans, and discuss cases with your supervising veterinarian.
Externs are encouraged to select a case each week for further research and discussion, allowing you to explore specific areas of interest and build confidence in both routine and complex cases.
