What To Expect

The Repair Technician Apprentice is responsible for learning how to install, repair, and operate elevator & escalator equipment. In this role, the Repair Technician Apprentice will service a variety of elevator systems under the supervision of a technician. The Repair Technician Apprentice will often visit several job sites each day, help organize tools & equipment and engage with customers to learn more about the reported problem(s).

This role often involves working with both mechanical & electrical systems.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Under supervision, assists repair technicians in maintaining, repairing, & troubleshooting problems with elevators, escalators, & other vertical transportation.
  • Assists in preventative maintenance & inspection of elevators, escalators, lifts, and related components.
  • Responds to call‑back/trouble calls in a timely manner and restores equipment to a safe operating condition.
  • Applies skills and knowledge learned in the apprenticeship program to learn & develop diagnostic troubleshooting ability; operates tools & equipment common to the elevator trade such as volt ammeter, amp probe, meggars, tachometer, rotation meter, soldering iron, solid state logic probes, lap top troubleshooting, & numerous power and hand tools.
  • Maintains machine rooms, elevator pits and elevator car tops in a neat & clean condition.
  • Assists in maintaining equipment inventory as needed.
  • May be assigned to special task force during periods of emergency, such as floods, storms, hurricanes, etc.
