Job SummaryThe Certified Medical Assistant is a key component of our team that works closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care to our community, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner.
- Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
- Measure vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
- Perform departmental‑related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
- Possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Degree or GED.
- Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required):
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). - If the incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment‑Based Recognition in Order Entry (A ‑OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina).
BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH).
Experience- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
- Possess problem‑solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.
