Position: Senior Superintendent (Water/Wastewater)

Job Overview

The Senior Superintendent in the Clark Water Group oversees all field operations on a project to ensure that self‑performed and subcontracted trade work is in compliance with contract documents and the project schedule. They also implement and enforce safety and quality control policies among Clark employees and subcontractors.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the timely and cost‑effective installation of the contracted work of either the total project or specific scope(s), subcontractor(s), or other portion(s) of the project.
  • Provide on‑site training opportunities for Assistant Superintendents and Project/Office Engineers and encourage staff training and development.
  • Develop a plan for sequence of work and project schedule; plan and organize project work to ensure all work follows contract documents.
  • Maintain working knowledge of owner contract, subcontractors, and purchase orders.
  • Track scheduled delivery dates for all critical‑path material and equipment.
  • Track submittal schedule.
  • Update project schedule monthly in accordance with contract documents.
  • Control field costs for Clark and subcontracted work; supervise field workforce to achieve cost efficiency.
  • Schedule and monitor field productivity.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of equipment.
  • Implement safety program; conduct regular safety inspections and take remedial action when required.
  • Implement the company’s safety policies, procedures, and corporate QC policies and programs.
  • Assist in resolving scope conflicts.
  • Participate in project management functions.
  • Ensure punch list is completed in a timely manner.
  • Participate in marketing proposals and presentations.
Basic Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 8‑10+ years of water/wastewater construction experience with a large‑scale commercial contractor or equivalent industry experience at increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience building federal or government projects successfully from start to finish.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the construction process, including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, manpower, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead field operations.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations (e.g., OSHA).

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands‑on role. You may be on your feet frequently and navigate uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The work is physically demanding, requiring a full range of motion, including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You must be comfortable lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The role also involves desk time requiring prolonged sitting for computer work, document review, and meetings.

Environment

You’ll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites, adapting to varied weather conditions, moderate to loud noise levels, and confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment. Office time will involve moderate noise levels. All activities require adherence to Clark Construction’s safety policies, procedures, and all applicable laws.
