What You Will Do

As an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator (EPC), you will report directly to the Facility Preparedness first line manager within the Emergency Management Division s support Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) with the implementation of DOE’s Comprehensive Emergency Management System Order directives and LANL’s Emergency Management programmatic requirements. You will work with FOD and programmatic customers to tailor facility/area‑specific implementation of requirements. The position combines administrative responsibilities and boots‑on‑the‑ground work in the field.

  • Plan and document drill or exercise results
  • Maintain assembly area locations and supplies
  • Conduct workforce protective action drills
  • Identify improvement areas and develop sustainable corrective actions
  • Assist in developing and revising facility‑specific building emergency procedures
What You Need Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of emergency management practices, including preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation strategies
  • Comfortable verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on customer service, consistency, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and partner with peers in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to identify and execute priority initiatives
  • Willingness and ability to support occasional activities outside normal work hours (e.g., after‑hours drills, shift briefings, community outreach initiatives, Emergency Operations Center response activations)
Education / Experience

This position requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with DOE Order 151.1, Comprehensive Emergency Management System
  • Familiarity with Los Alamos National Laboratory operations and structure
  • Knowledge of NIMS/ICS and Emergency Operations Center functions
Essential Job Functions

Field and facility work may involve time spent outdoors in the elements and moderately strenuous activity; e.g., walkdowns of large buildings/areas, assembly area briefings, minor lifting/restocking of preparedness supplies.

Work Location

The work location for this position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

  • The selected candidate may be required to serve in a periodic on‑call capacity for positions within the EOC; recall required within 2 hours outside of normal laboratory business hours.
  • Specific facilities may require the training and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); e.g., lab coats, shoe covers, safety glasses, and contamination monitoring equipment.
