Mechanical Engineering (ME). The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor.
- Teach in Mechanical Engineering courses (e.g., Mechanical Engineering Design I and II, Engineering Statics) and possibly courses in related disciplines based on qualifications and interests.
- Meet the teaching workload with consideration for reallocation to service, professional development/activities/scholarship, or administrative duties in consultation with the Dean and Program Coordinator.
- Engage in service, professional development, student advising, faculty governance, and other academic and institutional support activities; supervision responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintain current teaching practices and transformational pedagogy; adhere to professional standards in education.
- Possible supervision of internships, curriculum development, training and mentoring of adjunct faculty, attending forums and meetings, undergraduate research initiatives, grant-writing, and serving on department/college committees as requested.
- Final offer contingent upon being on campus in Los Alamos at least three days per week. Appointment begins August 10, 2026.
Starting salary is commensurate with degrees and experience. Base salary for 1.0 FTE is $80,000 for a 9-month faculty position, depending on qualifications. Summer teaching may be possible and optional with additional compensation. An excellent benefits package is provided.
QualificationsMaster’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering field by application date.
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering by application date.
- Experience teaching engineering lecture and laboratory courses at a post-secondary institution, including upper-division undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, student mentoring, and/or undergraduate research.
- Experience with 3D CAD software (Solid Works preferred).
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
