What You Will Do
The Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an experienced Superintendent who is ready to be responsible for managing and overseeing some of the most sophisticated electrical and mechanical facilities and systems in the world.
As a Logistics Superintendent you will be a part of a highly creative, diverse, fast‑paced, efficient team tasked with tackling the most fascinating and challenging problems in our Laboratories facilities. LANL is always on the forefront, with industry‑leading examples of energy efficient and cost‑effective facilities.
Responsibilities- Drive continuous improvement, deliver the highest quality work on schedule and minimize costs, while maximizing mission‑critical facilities capabilities.
- Collaborate fully with Facilities Management, Engineering, Planning, Project Management, Material Procurement and Union Craft personnel in the performance of facility preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and modification work activities.
- Depending on the assignment, manage work activities at a Department of Energy Category II Nuclear Facility, Non‑Nuclear Facility, or both.
- Maintain required safety and security training, assure compliance, and make safety and security an integral part of every task; stop work if it is unsafe or compromises security.
- Work shift/rotating schedule, including 24/7 coverage and weekend assignments.
Job Requirements
- Moderate level experience directing multi‑discipline craft in facility maintenance, modification or construction projects.
- Moderate level knowledge of interpreting mechanical and electrical documents, specifications, drawings and schematics.
- Moderate level understanding and identification of workplace hazards with implementation of safety policies and procedures.
- Moderate level experience reviewing project plans and coordinating with project team members to develop cost estimates and execution schedules.
- Ability to track projects through all stages of execution and provide updates when requested.
- Ability to identify problem areas that could lead to project impacts, track impacts and perform trend analysis for process improvement.
- Moderate to expert level knowledge of lock‑out/tag‑out process.
- Experience directing work and understanding of collective union bargaining agreements.
- Working knowledge or experience in an operating hazardous facility.
- Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and requirements.
- Proficiency with computerized work management systems for job tracking.
- Skill in preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
Physical Requirements
- Color, peripheral, depth, binocular, reading, distance, and hearing vision; ability to discriminate speech; ability to speak, hear high‑pitched sounds, and normal hearing range 500–3000 Hz.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, twist trunk or back, balance, reach overhead, horizontally, or down, grip, press, push, pull with hands or arms, type or keyboard, fine motor control, use both hands, arms, legs, feet.
- Lifting and carrying 20–30 pounds.
- Indoors/outdoors.
- Irregular schedule, overtime, rotating shift.
- Hot environment 90–100 °F, dry environment.
- Motor vehicle operation, noisy environment, near electrical power supplies, ionizing radiation sources, vibrating equipment, moving machinery.
- Safety gear: head protection, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective shoes.
The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM; all locations are at management discretion.
Work Schedule24/7 coverage may be required with shift/weekend assignments. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay. Shift/weekend assignments are at manager discretion.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service to be eligible for posted jobs. Position commitment is 1 year.
