Safety Basis Analyst 3/4 (All Shifts)

OverviewAs part of the Safety Basis Division (SB), you will work within a multidisciplinary team performing documented safety analyses and other safety basis documentation. SB provides qualified regulatory and safety basis support resources to various laboratory organizations to meet compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Initiate and lead planning for changes in safety basis for operational/mission needs, construction projects, and major modifications.
- Evaluate and perform safety basis analyses for nuclear and non‑nuclear facility systems, including hazard identification, categorization, accident analysis, control selection, and development of associated safety basis documents.
- Provide interpretation of plant processes for safety basis impact from schematics, procedures, and verbal/written descriptions.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative hazard analyses, fault‑tree and event‑tree analyses of complex engineered systems, quantify significant accident sequences, and conduct consequence analyses and Unreviewed Safety Question determinations.
- Develop relationships with facility and project management to ensure facility mission and schedules are met and provide guidance on implementation of safety basis documents.
- Develop studies and complete other tasks as assigned by Safety Basis Division Management.
- Lead and perform division‑level safety basis program and operational activities.
- Provide procedural direction for development and implementation of safety basis policy and procedures.
- Lead and perform risk and hazard analyses to ensure safe operation of nuclear and non‑nuclear facilities.

830 Subpart‑A Nuclear Quality. - Provide quality assurance, regulatory compliance and requirements implementation support for the Safety Basis Division.
- Develop, design and implement institutional safety basis policies and procedures related to quality, data gathering, analysis, cause and corrective action determination and verification, and process improvement activities.
- Lead audits and assessment scheduling processes that support Safety Basis Division and programmatic requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science from an accredited institution.
- Level 3: 8 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Level 4: 12 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- For level 4, extensive experience with performing risk and hazard analyses.
- Knowledge of multiple safety analysis code applications and ability to independently apply and interpret models.
- Quality Assurance skills
- Audit/assessment experience
- Knowledge of causal analysis techniques
This position may require 24/7 coverage, including shift and weekend assignments. Shift differential may be paid at the manager’s discretion.
Work LocationLos Alamos, NM (onsite). All work locations are at the discretion of management.
