Position: Nuclear and Hazardous Materials Technician (Tec) 2/3- Weekend Swing/Night Shift (Friday - Monday)

This position will be filled at either the Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Tec 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

At Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), we solve national security challenges through simultaneous excellence! The Plutonium Capability Low Level Waste and WCRRF Waste Operations group (NPI-10) is looking for highly motivated individuals to serve as level 2 or 3 Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Technicians to join our TA-55 LLW Operations.

The shifts offer a differential pay of the basic hourly rate. NPI-10 ensures safe, efficient, and compliant waste management generated at the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) building, the TA-50 Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF), the Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB) and the Waste Characterization, Reduction, and Repackaging Facility (WCRRF).

Responsibilities
  • Interface with teams within the NPI division, with other groups within TA-55 and the Laboratory.
  • Provide support to move, load, transport, and store hazardous containers and/or waste material.
  • Perform and review inspection and characterization information on containers to ensure proper handling and storage.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in emerging technical specialty.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with handling and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to the handling of hazardous wastes.
Work Environment

Work near sources of ionizing radiation; ability to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses or eye protection, anti-contamination clothing, safety shoes, protective footgear, full-face respirators; all while in radiological work areas.
