What You Will Do
The Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMCA) Group is seeking enthusiastic individuals to provide nuclear material safeguards oversight in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) Weapons Program. NMCA personnel in the Security Programs Division are responsible for ensuring compliance with DOE O 474.2, overseeing Decontamination & Decommissioning (D&D) activities, and safeguarding Special Nuclear Material (SNM) and other accountable Nuclear Material (NM).
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attention to detail, a questioning attitude, and excellent interpersonal skills necessary to provide oversight in operational and blended work environments. This position will be filled at the MC&A Specialist 1 or 2 level depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned at higher levels.
This position will be filled at either the D&D Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1 or D&D Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2 depending on the skills of the selected candidate. - Support audits and appraisals of nuclear material accounting functions.
- Perform oversight of legacy material, holdup, and waste items in the field and in NMCA accounting systems.
- Support preparation and conduct of physical inventories for assigned Material Balance Areas (MBAs).
- Review nuclear material inventory reports to identify variances and assist in investigations.
- Support analysis and interpretation of statistical inventory models to determine significance of variances.
- Interact with customer organizations daily to coordinate recommended solutions.
- Identify and report anomalous conditions in accordance with procedures.

D&D Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2 $ 85,900-$139,900- Perform independent audits and appraisals of nuclear material accounting functions.
- Monitor, analyze, and correct variances between site nuclear material inventory records and external databases.
- Identify potential physical inventory issues and recommend solutions prior to conduct.
- Issue and track Action Forms through closure.
- Provide oversight of nuclear material values in databases.
- Mentor customers and NMCA staff.
- Work with minimal supervision in operational environments.
Minimum
Job Requirements
- Experience interpreting and applying complex requirements in a nuclear, high-hazard, or similar environment.
- Specialized knowledge in one or more of the following:
- Nuclear facility operations
- Application of MC&A requirements to nuclear D&D
- Chemical/physical processes involving nuclear material
- Familiarity with non-destructive assay methods.
- Ability to recognize and address statistically significant variances in nuclear material data.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with knowledge of regulatory drivers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for reporting, trending, and presentations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders.
Job Requirements for Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2
- Experience analyzing, monitoring, correcting, and balancing nuclear material inventory data.
- Experience conducting physical inventories of high-value items or materials.
- Demonstrated ability to perform audits in a nuclear or high-hazard environment.
- Intermediate Excel skills with experience in report generation and trending.
Position requires an Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or, equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.
Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields.
Education/Experience at Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2Position requires an Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications- Experience providing inventory oversight in nuclear or high-hazard environments.
- Familiarity with LANMAS and other nuclear material accounting systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of NMCA requirements as outlined in DOE O 474.2.
- Experience implementing successful process improvement projects.
- STEM degree in a technical discipline.
