** Pulsed Power Engineering Technologist I** ($85,900 - $139,900)
The DARHT Engineering Operations and Physics Group (J-6) is seeking a Pulsed Power Engineering Technologist I to join the Pulsed Power Team. J-6 provides state‑of‑the‑art accelerator, pulsed power, beam‑target, and radiographic physics capabilities in support of the Laboratory's hydrodynamic test mission.
Responsibilities- Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance of the pulsed power systems driving the DARHT accelerators.
- Maintain, refurbish, and upgrade DARHT linear induction cells.
- Assemble, install, and maintain DARHT pulsed power test stands.
- Operate pulsed power test stands and verify that equipment passes electrical and mechanical tests.
- Write technical reports, documents, and presentations.
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of procedures, processes, and equipment.
- Operate cranes and forklifts.
- Proven experience working with electrical circuits and high‑voltage components.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
- History of fabricating electrical equipment and components (e.g., soldering, wiring).
- Mechanical experience using hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of vacuum systems and laboratory instrumentation (power supplies, oscilloscopes, digitizers, data acquisition).
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Willingness to acquire new skills and a fast learner.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related field and 2 years related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience with pulsed power, electrical energy storage, and high‑voltage switching circuits.
- Safety knowledge for high‑voltage electrical circuits.
- Knowledge of MOSFETs, SCRs, and analog design.
- Experience working in highly formal operational environments.
- Fundamentals of electrical engineering including circuit design, modeling, and simulation tools such as SPICE.
- Experience with linear induction accelerators.
Onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service of 1 year in the current position to be eligible for lab jobs. If an employee has not served the required period, they may only apply for laboratory jobs with Division Leader approval.
ClearanceQ clearance required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, except in very limited circumstances.
