What You Will Do
The Laboratory for Ultrafast Materials and Optical Science (LUMOS) group in the Materials Physics and Applications (MPA) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) seeks an outstanding graduate research assistant (GRA) with strong background and extensive experience in micro- and nano-fabrication, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMs) processing, and optical and material characterizations. The successful candidate will assist several on-going projects, perform process development and device fabrication using the state-of-the-art cleanroom at Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) Core facility, and conduct optical measurements using CINT Gateway facility as well as LUMOS labs selected candidate will have opportunities to get involved in world-class research activities while pursuing his/her dissertation research.
The selected candidate will work both independently and collaboratively with PI and other scientists of the LUMOS team for this research endeavor.
Minimum
Job Requirements:
- Must be enrolled (6 semester credit hours or full-time equivalent) in an accredited, degree-granting graduate level program (or international equivalent)
- Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Experience in one or several following micro- and nano-fabrication processes, tools, and metrology: photolithography, electron-beam lithography, thin-film deposition, plasma dry etching, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
- Experience in optical characterizations, including photoluminescence (PL), time-resolved PL, and linear transmission and reflection measurements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to conduct research both independently and collaboratively.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Experience in designing integrated photonics (e.g., wave guides, couplers, ring resonators lasers, etc.) using commercial simulation packages (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, CST) and their device fabrication.
- Experience in fabricating lithium niobate photonic devices.
- Experience in ultrafast optical characterizations such as pump-probe measurements.
- Demonstrated record of scientific achievement through journal publications and technical presentations.
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
