Position: Reliability Technologist ½ (Engineering Technologist)

Overview

Reliability Technologist ½ (Engineering Technologist) – Los Alamos National Laboratory

Direct the search for reliable, maintainable systems through planning, execution, and sustainment activities aligned with reliability-centered maintenance and continuous improvement practices.

Responsibilities
  • Planning through Reliability-centered Maintenance, Execution through High Precision Maintenance, and Sustainment through Reliability Engineering.
  • Participating in fact-based, solution-driven resolutions to manufacturing problems, including investigation and research.
  • Gathering data for analysis to logically eliminate causal factors.
  • Supporting the implementation and sustainment of Reliability-centered Maintenance strategies.

Reliability Technologist 2 (Engineering Technologist
2) – $94,500 - $154,600

In addition to what is outlined above, at this level additional key responsibilities include applying Lean Six Sigma tools, techniques, and methodologies (strategic gap analysis, lean, design for six sigma, Kaizen events, etc.) and documenting work activities using various computer applications and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Reading and understanding detailed technical instructions, following precise procedures, and executing repetitive work according to established procedures.
  • Following verbal instructions and reading/writing in English to follow directions provided in written communications.
  • Data gathering for analysis to determine approaches to problems and selecting methods to obtain solutions.
  • Planning, scheduling, and arranging self-directed activities to accomplish objectives.
  • Maintenance-related work on various components and equipment: testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing.
  • Reading and understanding P&IDs, layouts, floor plans, drawings, and other planning tools; preparing and documenting technical information.
  • Performing computer-related tasks, data input, and using computer programs for technical problem solving.
  • Assisting engineers in reviewing and recommending actions on equipment reliability issues.
  • Supporting technical research and gathering data needed by engineers to develop maintenance strategies.

Knowledge and Understanding:

  • FMEAs, RCAs, DMAIC, Kaizen, equipment maintenance strategies, asset criticality analysis, and lifecycle cost analysis.

Education/Experience:

  • Lower level:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related field with 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Higher level:
    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related field with 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desirable Skills:

  • DOE Q-Clearance and HRP-Certification.

Hard

Skills:

Experience with LANL policies and procedures related to safety and operations; understanding of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies.

Soft Skills:

Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams, effective communication, self-motivated, and strong problem-solving skills.

Essential Job Functions

Ability to speak, read, see, sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, twist, bend, kneel, balance, apply torque, use both hands and arms, lift 10-20 pounds, and carry 30+ pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation).

Work Environment

Overtime or irregular schedules, off-shift/rotating schedules, proximity to ionizing radiation and machinery, travel, PPE requirements including mask/respirator, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and safety footwear.

Work Schedule & Location

This position may require 24/7 coverage and a shift schedule. Onsite work location is Los Alamos, NM.

Clearance & Compliance

Position requires a Q clearance. Background investigation and eligibility for access to classified matter. DOE and NNSA directives apply. New-employment drug testing is required.
