What You Will Do
The Foundry and Solidification Sciences Team is seeking a Post‑Masters Research Assistant to support thermophysical and thermomechanical property measurements of metals and alloys for various research and development projects. The candidate will assist in measurements such as specific heat, enthalpy, density, thermal expansion coefficient, flow stress and strain, and transformation temperatures. The individual will work with a mentor and will be assigned portions of projects on which they will have responsibility.

Job Requirements:
- Completion of a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field within the last 3 years from an accredited university with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2
- An understanding of metal manufacturing processes
- Experience with differential scanning calorimetry
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain a Q clearance which normally requires U.S. Citizenship
Desired
Qualifications:
- Experience with dilatometry, and high temperature mechanical testing (particularly using a Gleeble)
- Experience with optical and electron microscopy (LOM, SEM, EDS, EBSD)
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and communicate results
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a hands‑on laboratory environment
- Demonstrated ability to identify creative solutions and design experiments
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field.
