Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an Engineering Technologist resource for the V‑14, Test Engineering group. The candidate will work with test engineers, systems engineers, and management to ensure successful preparation and execution of experimental activities.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with test engineers, systems engineers, and management to plan and execute experimental activities.
- Support component, subsystem, and system testing, including explosive experiment execution.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment; set up instrumentation and data‑acquisition equipment.
- Participate in the development of new testing technologies and techniques; implement quality‑assurance requirements.
- Operate in controlled hazardous environments, including high‑explosives, radioactive materials, and other hazardous substances.
- Maintain safety and security training, ensuring compliance and integrating safety into all tasks.
- Apply mechanical‑engineering principles to resolve moderately complex problems, assist in design‑criteria formulation, and perform basic calculations.
- Assist in product, system, and equipment design, development, and experimental evaluation processes.
- Prepare, review, and document technical information for projects.
Job Requirements
- Knowledge of planning and executing tests involving components, preferably in shock, vibration, and/or thermal environments.
- Experience with data‑acquisition systems and diagnostics.
- Ability to accomplish technical tasks independently and in a team setting.
- Experience in testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
- Track record of delivering products on schedule amid changing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in the safe and proper use of hand tools (torque wrenches, combination wrenches, ratchets, sockets, pliers).
- Proficient in operating power tools (drills, impact wrenches) for maintenance and assembly tasks.
- Comfortable working safely around hazards such as explosives and radiation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
- Experience conducting environmental tests, including thermal, shock, vibration, and mechanical testing.
- Experience operating electrodynamic shakers, centrifuges, and thermal chambers.
- Experience working in proximity to and handling classified information.
- Knowledge of data‑acquisition and signal‑conditioning systems for instruments such as accelerometers, strain gauges, and thermocouples.
- Experience with hazards including high explosives and radiological material.
- Experience developing and implementing maintenance programs for experimental equipment.
- Active DOE Q clearance.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Work LocationOnsite, Los Alamos, NM. All locations are at management discretion.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The commitment for this position is 1 year.
