CEIS | Government is seeking an experienced and compliance-driven Electrical Safety Officer to support high-consequence nuclear and research operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The selected individual will play a critical role in the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of LANL’s Electrical Safety Program, ensuring alignment with DOE requirements, NFPA standards, and institutional safety protocols.

This role is embedded within a multidisciplinary operational environment and will interface with engineers, facility operations, ESH professionals, maintenance teams, and leadership to enforce safe electrical work practices and hazard mitigation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for electrical safety across LANL facilities, with an emphasis on DOE-regulated high-hazard environments.

Provide field oversight, auditing, and coaching to ensure compliance with LANL Institutional Electrical Safety Program, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910 Subpart S, and 10 CFR 851.

Support and perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) reviews, and electrical hazard assessments for energized and de-energized work.

Review and approve safe work permits, energized work requests, and arc flash mitigation plans.

Conduct site walkthroughs and inspections, identify non-compliance, and coordinate corrective actions.

Deliver and support electrical safety training programs for technical staff, subcontractors, and facility personnel.

Collaborate with line management and engineering to resolve field conditions that present electrical safety risks or violate institutional protocols.

Participate in investigations of electrical incidents or near-misses, provide root cause analysis, and develop corrective/preventive actions.

Maintain and contribute to updates of electrical safety procedures, program manuals, and institutional documentation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience with formal training in electrical safety programs.

8+ years of experience in electrical safety oversight within DOE, defense, or high-risk industrial environments.

Demonstrated expertise in NFPA 70E, LOTO programs, and electrical hazard risk assessment techniques.

Knowledge of DOE electrical safety regulations, including 10 CFR 851 and related LANL directives.

Familiarity with Institutional Electrical Safety Officers (IESO) responsibilities and documented field implementation.

Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Must hold aDOE Q Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) or equivalent credential.

Prior experience supporting LANL, NNSA, or other DOE laboratories.

Experience developing or delivering NFPA 70E-based training or managing energized work programs.

Working knowledge of LANL systems including IWS, CATS, Oracle, and institutional ES&H tools.

Proven success in building and sustaining electrical safety cultures in dynamic, complex environments.
