Overview
The position is for a Graduate Research Assistant in multiphase flow theory and modeling within the Fluid Dynamics and Solid Mechanics Group (T‑3) of the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory
.
Successful candidates will conduct research in theoretical and computational fluid‑structure interactions, compressible multiphase flows, and related modeling and algorithm developments. They will also engage in modeling and simulation of fluids and deforming solids over multiple length and time scales, coupling advanced models and numerical methods for materials dynamics at all velocities and with coupled physical processes.
Minimum Requirements- Enrollment in a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on graduate coursework.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Desire to learn new things and openness to work on different projects.
- Ability to independently learn and use scientific software packages and perform analytical calculations.
- Research experience in theoretical modeling and numerical computation of fluid dynamics, solid deformations, or a related field of physics.
The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

No security clearance is required. Selected candidates will undergo drug testing and background checks. Applicant reviews will begin on January 3, 2026, with an initial appointment of 3 months and possible extensions up to 3‑4 years depending on progress and funding.
Salary ranges from $36.52/hr to $42.36/hr depending on education completed.
