Water Systems Team Lead; Engineer

Seeking an engineer to lead the LANSCE accelerator water team. This team is responsible for all aspects of the water-cooling systems for the accelerator components. This includes pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valving, flow control, instrumentation, and water conditioning. As Team Leader, you are responsible for managing a team of technicians toward all required maintenance, repair and improvements of the LANSCE water systems.

The successful candidate will be hired at the level consistent with his or her knowledge and experience.

This position will be filled at either the Engineering Services Engineer 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

As an Engineer 2 you will lead a team of technicians responsible for the operation and maintenance of the cooling water systems of all components along the LANSCE linear particle accelerator. You will be responsible for planning and scheduling of all maintenance and repair activities of the team. In addition, LANSCE is currently in the process of major upgrades and improvements that require design, analysis and innovative engineering solutions.

In addition to the responsibilities of the lower level, at the Engineer 3 position a deeper level of water systems understanding can be brought to bear on work planning and execution as well as the engineering design, analysis and integration of solutions to either new systems or new approaches to long established methods.

• Responsible for safety and security of all team operations, following all written procedures and Integrated Work Documents (IWD) associated with ongoing activities, and the writing and editing of these documents.
• Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of cooling water systems and associated equipment.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience to apply engineering principles, practices and techniques toward the solution to water system problems and successful solutions.
• Experience leading coordinating a team of technicians toward the safe and effective execution of their work activities.
• Stand as the coordinating team engineer to deal with stakeholders and with other teams in the group with overlapping system responsibilities.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to work hands on with the team technicians during maintenance and repair tasks.
• Demonstrated sound knowledge of codes and standards for pressure safety.

• Superior demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
• Priven ability to apply cutting edge design and analysis techniques to problem solving.
• Demonstrated visionary leadership capabilities toward implementation of improved methods and equipment for a more reliable and robust cooling water system for LANSCE

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years practical work experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Current registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is highly desirable.

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 6 years practical work experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
