What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Health Physicist 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Come join the Radiation Instrument and Calibration (RIC) Team in the Radiation Protection Service Group (RP-SVS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This Health Physicist position provides RP instrumentation technical advice and support, customer service, troubleshooting, type testing, and collaboration with the RP instrumentation manufacturers in the development or improvement of instrumentation. Our team supports the Radiation Protection Program by maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and developing radiation protection instrumentation.
Health Physicist Level 2: $104,100 - $172,200This position will include supporting the testing, evaluating, maintenance, and calibrating processes for fixed and portable alpha, beta, photon, neutron and tritium radiation protection instrumentation. You will provide support for routine and special operations at the Central Health Physics Calibration Facility for x-ray, gamma, and neutron RP instruments. You will perform special calibrations using a variety of radiation sources along with evaluation of existing and proposed instrumentation.
You will also participate in the development, evacuation, and implementation of new methods to improve radiation protection practices with regards to radiation protection instrumentation.
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the Health Physicist 3 level will be responsible for the RIC Team's development and review of technical calibration procedures, and technical basis documents. As a level 3 HP, you will be responsible for supporting the implementation and oversight of the RIC Team's Quality Assurance Program. You will develop technical basis and performance documents on RP instrument capabilities.
You will develop solutions to complex problems requiring the frequent use of creativity, data analysis, and in-depth analysis of multivariable problems and situations.
