Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a highly motivated Project Leader 2 to join the Weapons Learning Transformation team within Weapons Research Services. This position plays a pivotal role in connecting a broad portfolio of funded learning initiatives supporting the Weapons Program selected candidate will serve as the connective tissue among multiple projects—ensuring alignment, identifying cross‑project opportunities, and seeking efficiencies that enhance the agility and responsiveness of the Weapons Learning team.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate all aspects of moderately complex projects within the Weapons Learning portfolio, ensuring successful completion within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Integrate project efforts across multiple funded initiatives to identify synergies, efficiencies, and emerging opportunities for new and/or expanded capabilities.
- Track project requirements, components, and deliverables from work packages to meet programmatic needs.
- Monitor project health and performance under limited direction, applying change control as needed and reporting status, risks, and progress to the Dean for Weapons Learning and senior leadership.
- Communicate across interdisciplinary teams using a shared project language.
- Identify resource needs to program and line managers to ensure adequate resourcing over time for project deliverables.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with all Laboratory safety, security, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain an eye for scale in all solutions generated through project deliverables.
- Foster collaboration and knowledge exchange across the Weapons Learning Transformation team, the broader Weapons Program, and external partners.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
Job Requirements
- Strategic Coordination and Execution: Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple, moderately complex initiatives from conception to completion.
- Integration and Systems Thinking: Proven ability to connect and align multiple work streams, identify dependencies, and create efficiencies across diverse project portfolios.
- Collaboration and Communication: Experienced ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel, building trust, facilitating consensus, and resolving conflicts in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Adaptability and Initiative: Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, operate independently under limited supervision, and adjust priorities in a dynamic setting.
- Industry Perspective: Prior experience in industry, particularly in learning systems, organizational transformation, or operations environments that value agility and innovation.
- Safety, Security, and Compliance: Commitment to making safety and security an integral part of every task and ensuring compliance with all Laboratory and regulatory requirements.
- Education/
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working within large, complex R&D or national security organizations.
- Familiarity with the Weapons Program’s learning, training, or operations landscape.
- Experience implementing systems for learning management, learning analytics, or performance improvement.
- Certification or coursework in project management (e.g., PMP, CAPM, or LANL PM certification).
