What You Will Do
The Program Project Interface (PPI) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a highly organized and motivated Project Leader to provide project and operational support in a mission-focused environment.
PPI plays a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of capital line-item and programmatic equipment projects. As the strategic bridge between the Associate Laboratory Director for Weapons Production (ALDWP) and the Associate Laboratory Director for Plutonium Infrastructure (ALDPI), PPI supports the delivery of next-generation facilities, infrastructure, and equipment essential to national security.
The PPI-3 Program Office provides functional management of the New/Revised/Restarted Activity Approval Process Program at the Laboratory. The selected candidate will manage a portfolio of projects within the office that spans the transition to operations and readiness of operational capabilities for various customers within and that support ALDWP activities. The Program Office interfaces with projects within the PPI portfolio such as Pu sustainment, infrastructure, LAP4, CMRR, RC‑3, and TRP III.
PPI‑3 provides functional management during the TTO and startup phases to ensure transition from project to operating capability. This includes TTO activities such as facilitating and verifying Safety Management Programs (SMPs) and Conduct of Operations are implemented for new, revised, or restarted activities as well as execution of the defined startup activity up to and including Federal Readiness to demonstrate implementation.
Leader 1 ($78,700‑$125,100)
The Project Leader 1 serves as the key interface with PPI customers to develop and maintain relationships and to articulate project deliverables to all project team members. They will lead the work with the project team and establish the requirements and documentation needs to perform a successful transition to operations. They will manage their assigned project scope and ensure timely completion of tasks;
establish requirements for the project; define and/or execute project deliverables, budgets, and schedules; contribute to the project team in the planning, tracking, and execution of TTO activities. The Project Leader develops work schedules that define what will be accomplished to meet specific programmatic needs and produce the work products defined by the work schedules. They will also partner with ALDPI/ALDWP teams to ensure the flow‑down and incorporation of ALDPI/ALDWP requirements and execution of successful project turnover and closeout.
Leader 2 ($94,500‑$154,600)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Project Leader 2 will negotiate with project stakeholders both within and external to PPI Division to ensure that resources are available to complete TTO activities and serve as a spokesperson to report project status and issues to management.
What You NeedMinimum
Job Requirements:
Entry‑level knowledge of project management, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, schedule, budget, and baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions. Experience developing and implementing program improvements and tracking the effectiveness of their implementation strategies.
Technical ExpertiseEntry‑level knowledge of the operational discipline of the assigned projects(s). Entry‑level knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to the assigned project(s). Entry level knowledge and experience in design, procurement, equipment installation, instrument operations, procedure development, or startup evaluation.
Startup and ReadinessFamiliarity with the process to startup or restart activities following an upgrade or stand down of operations. Familiarity with nuclear, radiological, or other industrial/high hazard facilities operations requirements, including safety, safeguards and security, radiation protection, waste management, criticality safety, conduct of operations, and quality assurance/control.
