What You Will DoThe Los Alamos Plutonium Pit Production project (LAP4) contributes significant equipment necessary to achieve the enduring pit production mission 30‑Base (30B) Equipment Installation subproject is a component of the overall LAP4 and the broader LANL effort to establish a capability of producing 30 pits per year (ppy). As a Program Manager for 30B you will manage and report to the multi‑year project management plan in accordance with LANL's Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
The selected candidate will work closely with project management, project controls and the broader Integrated Project Team (IPT) in planning, negotiating, integrating, monitoring, reporting and executing project plans from initiation to completion within the approved scope, schedule and budget baseline.
Job Requirements
- Program Management – Expert knowledge and experience in program management of non‑science and non‑engineering work, including defining work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities and performance milestones; developing cost, scope and schedule baselines; reporting cost and schedule variance; and managing change control and risk. Expert knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to programmatic work of assigned portfolio(s).
- Scheduling – Expert knowledge and experience to balance scope, resources and priorities, and use software for planning, tracking and efficient mobilization of resources to assure scope completion.
- Finance – Successfully demonstrated experience in managing cost and schedule commitments for moderately complex projects.
- Leading Teams and Collaboration – Successfully demonstrated ability to work effectively with and cultivate a strong teaming culture across all levels of technical and programmatic staff. Demonstrated ability to de‑conflict situations and work with stakeholders to uphold priority of LANL W93/Mk7 schedule needs. Successfully demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective customer relationships.
- Communication – Ability to develop and nurture effective internal customer relationships; interact effectively with all levels of internal personnel; build trust, gain consensus and resolve conflicts; and demonstrate strong interpersonal, presentation and written skills.
- Execution – Proven record of working independently or collaborating with others as needed to achieve objectives.
Work Schedule:
This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve shift work. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift assignments are at the manager’s discretion.
Training/
Certifications:
CAM Qualification – must obtain Level 2 certification within 6 months.
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level an advanced degree may be expected.
Desired Qualifications- Formal project management training or education with the ability to obtain a Project Management Professional certification within 2 years.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in project management, project controls and DOE O 431.3B (Program/Project Management for Acquisition of Capital Assets).
The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees must serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment is 1 year.
