Use your skills to support our national security mission! Prototype Fabrication (PF) is seeking a qualified Development and Fabrication Technician (level 1 or
2) to join the division's Integrated Logistics & Asset Management (ILAM) team.
The PF Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides decades of experience and expertise in machining, fabrication and precision dimensional inspection of critical hardware needed to support the nation's stockpile stewardship efforts. The ILAM Group supports the division's 8 manufacturing facilities in the areas of machine maintenance, inventory control and facility systems interface. As a member of the Dev & Fab team, you will provide support through multitude of duties including cleaning, maintenance, material handling, deburring, inspection, and machine operation.
This position will be filled at either the Development & Fabrication Technician 1/Development & Fabrication Technician 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Development & Fabrication Tec 1 ($48,500-$75,000)As a Development & Fabrication Technician 1 you will provide important shop assistance that will enable us to perform manufacturing in an efficient and compliant manner for our LANL customers. Typical assignments will include industrial cleaning, fluid changes, material movement, waste handling, and preventive maintenance. Your passion for physically intense assignments will help drive a manufacturing operation that is clean, efficient, and reliable.
You will use cranes, forklifts, mechanical handling equipment, and a world‑class safety protocol to enable your work. Depending on shop workload, the scope of this role may grow to include part deburring, basic mechanical inspection, and basic operation of mills and lathes. This is an exciting opportunity for an entry‑level technician who approaches hands‑on work with energy, care, and pride.
& Fabrication Tec 2 ($53,700-$82,500)
In addition to what was outlined at Level 1, at Level 2 you will be responsible for performing more intricate and complex assignments at a higher level of self‑direction, efficiency, and skill.

Technical Skills Required
- Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance on machine tools such as coolant changes, checking oil, cleaning filters and wiping down machine tools.
- Ability to provide forklift and crane support to move materials.
- Ability to assist the maintenance team in preparing and coordinating equipment/machine tools for installation, removal, or disposition for salvage.
- Ability to coordinate with the Shop Supervisors and Waste Management Coordinator to manage waste, including labeling and disposal.
- Ability to accurately perform mathematical shop calculations involving addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
- Ability to clearly convey technical information by writing and by speaking.
- Ability to understand written and spoken technical information.
- Ability to maintain inventory levels of raw stock material and consumables used in the manufacturing process.
- Ensure shops areas, stock room, and drop points remain clean and organized.
