Overview
Manufacturing Technician (Research Tec 2/3) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. This position may be filled at the Research Tec 2 or Tec 3 level depending on the candidate's skills. Additional responsibilities at the higher level may be assigned if hired as Research Tec 3. The work supports national security objectives in a nuclear facility and requires appropriate safety, security, and quality processes.
WhatYou Will Do
The Manufacturing Technician will work in a team environment within LANL's nuclear facility to manufacture product, support material movement and glove box operations. The majority of daily work is hands-on glovebox work in support of plutonium processing. Work is performed in PF-4 using Detailed Operating Procedures (DOPs) and Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) to produce quality products. The role requires knowledge and experience with Conduct of Operations, nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological safety, and environment compliance.
The job involves protection and maintenance of sensitive or classified information and requires a DOE security clearance and enrollment in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
Research Tec 2 ($53,700 - $82,500). You will be trained to perform manufacturing tasks including plutonium processing, metal processing, casting, vacuum equipment operations, welding, mechanical assembly, leak testing, and equipment maintenance. You will use bench-top equipment and ensure all work, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications according to established requirements. You will handle radioactive and hazardous materials, write and maintain records, follow detailed procedures, write progress reports, interact with support organizations, and perform transactions on the nuclear material tracking system.
General knowledge of mechanical systems and experience working to technical specifications or procedures, as well as clean-room experience and pressure vessel operation, are preferred.
Research Tec 3 ($64,700 - $101,400). In addition to Tec 2 responsibilities, you will collaborate with facility representatives to support safety and reliability of equipment/systems, safely handle radioactive materials, and perform nuclear material accountability transactions. Preferred knowledge includes Conduct of Operations, Inventory Management, Quality Assurance, robotic functionality, and experience with mechanical tools such as an electro-hydraulic press.
