Overview
Manufacturing Production Scheduler & Planner (Production Control Specialist 2/3) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Prototype Fabrication (PF) Division has experience and expertise in machining, fabrication and precision dimensional inspection of critical hardware needed to support the nation's stockpile stewardship efforts. The Manufacturing (MFG) Group seeks a qualified machine shop scheduler and planner to join the team. This position provides vital production and manufacturing support for critical areas of operations.
The responsibilities cover a broad range of transactional activities essential for manufacturing accountability, security, shipping, tracking, quality and successful delivery of product to a broad customer base.
This position will be filled at either Production Control Specialist level 2 or 3, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities (outlined below) may be assigned if hired at the higher level.
- Manage the production schedule and track manufacturing costs from customer initiation through delivery of finished components.
- Provide manufacturing lead times based on current workload, track incoming materials, issue travelers to the shop floor, track in-process work, assist with managing classified inventory, and perform other scheduling functions to support on-time delivery.
- Proficiently use JobBOSS, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, to support scheduling activities.
- Collaborate with machinists, inspectors, welders, engineers, manufacturing liaisons, management and customers to support daily operations for the division.

- Production Control Specialist 3: $83,900 - $136,600
Manufacturing Knowledge
- Broad knowledge of manufacturing operations and the sequence of operations for the manufacture of parts and/or assemblies.
- Ability to read blueprints in support of customer deliverables.
- Demonstrated experience providing accurate quotes for work requests to include machine time, labor, material, and when required third party processes cost.
- Demonstrated experience performing, monitoring and reviewing scheduling functions. You will work directly with shop supervisors to manage all in-process work through the facility.
- Ability to coordinate the delivery and transfer of finished products on and offsite for a broad customer base.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate with onsite customers and offsite vendors to fulfill awarded task orders and support the retrieval of finished products.
Training/Certifications
- You must have the ability to acquire and maintain pertinent certifications, such as Radiological Worker II;
Beryllium Worker; classified matter custodian (CMC), and others that may apply.
Additional Job Requirements for Production Control Specialist 3
- Demonstrated experience implementing processes and procedures to manage production and inventory control systems.
- Advanced manufacturing experience to support working directly with the customer to understand and communicate complex manufacturing situations.
- Demonstrated advanced experience managing a limited capacity manufacturing operation and working to find appropriate solutions to scheduling conflicts.
Level 2
Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Level 3
Position requires 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications- Knowledge of LANL specific applications (JobBOSS, CPIMS, LANMAS, HMPT certification, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge managing production schedules supporting CNC machining operations.
- Working knowledge of managing production schedules in a hazardous materials manufacturing operation.
