Radioisotope Chemistry Postdoc

What You Will Do

The US DOE Office of Science Isotope Program develops isotope products and regularly produces and purifies radionuclides for a wide application spectrum in industry and research. It also has a strong radioisotope chemistry R&D mission. We are seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position in radiochemistry to perform laboratory research involving the production and purification of main and transition element radionuclides as well as short-lived actinide isotopes.

The successful candidate will be joining an experienced team of chemists and physicists within LANL's Chemistry Division.

What You Need

Minimum

Job Requirements:

Sound academic training in separation chemistry or analytical chemistry

Hands-on experience with radioactive material in a laboratory setting; experience with gamma spectrometry, IR, ICP-MS, ICP-OES

Willingness to work with high dose rate materials

Demonstrated ability to carry out independent and collaborative research, as evidenced by at least two first-author papers submitted to or published in peer-reviewed journals

Strong technical and interpersonal communication and language skills both orally and in writing

Creative and proactive approach to scientific problem solving

Proven ability to meet research deliverables and deadlines

Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team

Desired

Skills:

Experience in one or more additional chemistry discipline(s): synthetic inorganic or synthetic organic chemistry, physical chemistry, spectrometry.

Experience in hot cell operations and telemanipulator handling

Experience in nuclear reaction, DFT or quantum mechanical modelling

Experience with data analysis using software tools such as IDL or Matlab.

Proven contributions to successful research proposals

Education: PhD in chemistry or related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed. Must be completed before hiring.
