What You Will Do
The selected candidate will report to the LANL Gas Facility Operations Manager, under Logistics - Packaging & Transportation (LOG-PT) and will provide gas delivery and pickup operational and administrative support to the Gas Facility. The Gas Facility offers services including scheduling and delivery of gas shipments across the Laboratory, specialty gas orders, chemical management, and engineering services. As a member of the Gas Facility's Transportation Specialist team, the selected candidate will coordinate daily operational activities on behalf of Gas Facility team members, including the delivery and pickup of gases on-site and off-site (as necessary) and internal and external communications with customers and subcontractors.
The Transportation Specialist will be responsible for other tasks, including processes and procedure development, inventory control, and participation in projects and assessments. Quality-related support functions may be requested as needed.
Additional job responsibilities include:
- Understanding and adhering to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance (i.e. DOT, FMCSR, CGA) specific to hazardous materials and governance specific to facility operations.
- Ensuring all facility operational results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
- Obtaining a LANL Issued CDL Medical Certificate.
- Los Alamos National Laboratory Driver Qualification File.
- Knowledge of laboratory objectives and other statements of policy/practice/procedures.
- Ability to work extended hours on short notice.
- Ability to provide driver support on and off-site shipment, which may require 1 to 2 days travel.
- You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Drivers' Certification of Violations, to the LANL Federal Motor Carrier Safety Representative (LANL FMCSR); this report will be validated with the State of New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division, by the LANL FMCSR upon receipt of the Certificate.
- You may also transport Class 2 nuclear material - in accordance with LANL material control and accountability handbook.
- Working under general supervision.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Class A Commercial Driver's License with Hazardous Material and Tanker Endorsements.
- Working knowledge of gas facility process equipment and operations.
- Knowledge and experience in hazardous material/compressed gas packaging and transportation.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local nuclear and hazardous material/compressed gas transport standards, policies and regulations.
- Knowledge of Pressure Safety and Gas Cylinder Safety.
- Experience transporting hazardous materials or compressed gases in a government vehicle in accordance with 49 CFR/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Compressed Gas Association (CGA) regulations.
- Experience securing and un-securing compressed gas cylinders/dewars on transport vehicles in accordance with federal motor carrier safety requirements.
- Experience with required safety and security training, assuring safety and security compliance, and making safety and security an integral part of every task.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.
- Exceptional customer service, organizational skills, and ability to interact with all levels of personnel.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g., MS Office, SharePoint) computer hardware, and working in an office setting.
- Demonstrated experience in decision making, organizing, and prioritizing tasks, attention to detail and taking initiative.
- Experience with planning and scheduling work activities, and the ability to multitask.
- Demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, resolving discrepancies, and recommending solutions on problems affecting daily operations.
- Demonstrated experience in execution of written procedures.
Training/
Certifications:
- Must complete training requirements for Authorized Shipper/HMPT training.
- Must be willing to train to 49 CFR Hazardous Material/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
