Revenue Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Revenue Accountant to support a higher education or nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, California with resolving a volume of outstanding revenue accounting work. This is a Contract position focused on maintaining accurate financial records, applying proper revenue recognition guidance, and helping the organization meet reporting and compliance expectations. The role will contribute to accounting for multiple funding sources, including tuition, grants, donor support, contracts, and service-related income, while working closely with internal partners across finance and administrative functions.

Responsibilities:
• Record and review accounting entries tied to earned revenue, receivables, deferred balances, and related account activity to maintain complete and accurate financial records.
• Perform detailed account reconciliations, research variances, and resolve revenue-related discrepancies within established reporting timelines.
• Evaluate income activity across a range of sources such as tuition, grant funding, gifts, pledges, service programs, and contractual arrangements.
• Apply appropriate accounting treatment in line with ASC 606, organizational guidelines, donor intent, and grant compliance requirements.
• Track restricted and unrestricted funding activity to ensure revenue is classified and reported correctly based on funding terms.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and other revenue-related reporting deliverables.
• Develop audit-ready documentation and provide supporting analysis for internal reviews, external audits, and compliance reporting needs.
• Collaborate with teams such as development, sponsored programs, student finance, and grants administration to improve accuracy and consistency in revenue reporting.
• Review agreements and source documentation to determine correct recognition timing and financial statement presentation.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen controls and streamline revenue accounting workflows while helping address backlog priorities.
