An established CPA firm in Marin County, north of the Golden Gate Bridge, is hiring a Tax Manager. Roughly 40 years in business, and still growing organically rather than through acquisition.
The roleYou'll work across individual, business, nonprofit, and trust returns rather than sitting in one niche — the kind of variety you don't usually get once you're past a certain size. The workload is a genuine mix of prep and review depending on what's needed; managers here aren't locked into review-only. Busy season runs February through April at 50-55 billable hours a week;
outside of that it's a standard 40. The office closes on Fridays throughout July.
- 8-10 years of tax experience
- Broad exposure across individual, business, nonprofit and trust work
- A stable work history — this firm is looking for someone building a career here, not passing through
- Comfortable moving between preparation and review as workload requires
- Lacerte experience is a plus but not a deal breaker
- An existing book of business is a plus
- Local to the North Bay for a manageable commute
- Base salary $150,000-$200,000 depending on experience and book of business
- Bonus of roughly 5-15%
- 10% commission on any new client business you bring in, paid for as long as that client stays with the firm
- Hybrid schedule: 2 days WFH per week, non-consecutive, and flexible enough to shift week to week around your life
- A real path to partnership based on client relationships and effort rather than tenure or title — partners here have made it without ever holding a manager title
- CPE, licensing, and master's in taxation reimbursement
- Small-firm culture with direct access to leadership — weekly staff lunches, in-person collaboration valued for training and knowledge-sharing
The firm has grown from 3 to 5 partners in the last two years, with more change ahead as growth continues and one partner looks toward retirement.
