The Auto Club of Southern California is looking for an Automotive Research Engineer. The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands‑on experience and technical expertise as an automotive subject‑matter expert, leading the Automotive Research Center in testing and analysis related to vehicle emissions, fuel economy, and electric vehicle range. You will utilize results to provide useful data to clients, share consumer information with members, and present research to a wide range of clients and senior leadership at legislative, regulatory, public‑policy, and industry forums.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Develop and conduct technical research studies and analyses related to vehicle emissions, fuel economy, and EV ranges.
- Provide pertinent consumer information to members and teams to influence product development and improvement.
- Stay up to date on all state and federal regulations related to fuel economy and emissions.
- Manage projects related to automotive, emissions, and air quality issues.
- Contribute to and lead development initiatives in vehicle‑related automotive testing that support AAA’s business‑line strategies, member services, and products.
- Research key public‑policy issues and initiatives in automotive technology and assist the organization’s advocates.
- Play a key role in club‑owned publications, written studies, and various communication materials on automotive technology topics.
- Maintain lab equipment and procedures; recommend improvements.
- Prior experience in chassis dyno testing, including emissions, fuel economy, and EV range testing of vehicles.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in automotive research design, engineering, analysis, testing, and staff management (a combination of these is preferred).
- Strong oral and written communication skills, especially technical writing.
- Advanced ability to develop and implement initiatives and programs successfully.
- Proficiency in MS Office and specialized hardware and software needed for technical tasks.
- Membership in automotive associations such as SAE and industry certification (e.g., ASE) are preferred.
As an Automotive Research Lead Engineer you must hold a California vehicle operator’s license and maintain an excellent driving record.
CompensationThe starting pay range for this position is $97,200.00 – $. For full‑time positions, you will be eligible to participate in an incentive program based upon the achievement of organization, team, and personal performance.
