Visual Arts Club Leader – After School Program – Rise Middle School

Schedule:

20‑25 hours/week (shifts vary per location)

Reports to:

Site Coordinator
Program hours of operation: 1:00 PM – 5:00/6:00 PM (varies per location)

Woodcraft Rangers, founded in 1922, guides young people toward purposeful lives through inclusive, youth‑led programming grounded in the Woodcraft Way. We serve more than 20,000 youth annually across 110+ Title I schools in Los Angeles County.

Job Summary

Club Leaders create a fun, positive learning environment for approximately 20 children, ensuring safety, engagement, and skill development. They collaborate with the site coordinator and other staff and may work on site, at camp, or both.

Role Overview
  • Ensure students are in a safe environment, promote inclusion and respect for diversity.
  • Develop and lead age‑appropriate, engaging activities aligned with a whole‑child approach.
  • Monitor attendance and engagement to keep participants actively involved.
  • Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on culminating activities or events that showcase participants’ work.
  • Request necessary materials timely to keep budgets on track.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and emergency protocols.
  • Attend off‑site field trips as required.
  • Maintain and submit daily student attendance.
  • Participate in staff development trainings (~15 hours over the spring).
  • Report to the Site Coordinator and Program Manager for assigned duties.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

Detail‑oriented, energetic, ambitious, proactive, and positive. Works independently and collaboratively, excels at multitasking and attention to detail, and is comfortable presenting and speaking in front of staff and peers during in‑person training.

Requirements
  • Experience in expanded learning programs or youth recreational facilities.
  • Minimum high‑school diploma or GED (AA in child development or related field preferred); prior experience with K‑12 groups preferred.
  • Ability to work well with young children and/or youth.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and willingness to learn.
  • Valid LIVE Scan, TB Clearance, and CPR certification.
  • Pass an assessment test evaluating math, reading comprehension, and spelling skills.
Physical Demands
  • Stand frequently.
  • Use hands and computer.
  • Talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment

Typical work environment involves regular exposure to a computer monitor and ambient noise levels common in educational settings.
