REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from accredited medical school
- Successful completion of Anatomic Pathology or combined Anatomic/Clinical Pathology residency program
- Board eligibility or certification in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology; foreign certification equivalency may be granted at the discretion of the Medical Director (Department Chair or designee such as Vice Chair)
- For some subspecialities with separate board certification, additional fellowship training may be required at the discretion of the Medical Director
- California license to practice medicine
- Eligibility for appointment to Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center medical staff in accordance with medical bylaws
- Eligibility for academic appointment to a Cedars‑Sinai Professorial Track
- No physical or mental health disabilities that would preclude the safe practice of pathology
- Interpretation and reporting of anatomic pathology cases
- Gross examination, or direct or indirect supervision of gross examination by house staff and pathologist assistants, of macroscopic specimens
- Microscopic interpretation of specimens through evaluation of histologic sections and/or cytology smears
- Interpretation of special studies (e.g. immunohistochemistry, FISH)
- Reporting results in a timely manner and in a format compliant with department, hospital, and national practice standards
- Participation in autopsy service as assigned by the Medical Director
- Participation in after‑hours and weekend on‑call services as assigned by the Medical Director
- Participation in intraoperative consultation service as assigned by the Medical Director
- Develop, as appropriate, additional areas of expertise as assigned by the Medical Director
- Teaching and supervision of house staff in prosection of gross specimens, diagnostic interpretation of histologic sections and special studies, and generating reports
- Didactic lectures
- “Unknown” slide conferences
- “Known” slide conferences
- Complete resident evaluations in a timely manner
- Mentor house staff on research projects
- Active participation in all required division conferences, including but not limited to:
- DPLM faculty meetings
- Division‑Wide Unknown Conferences
- AP faculty meetings
- AP PIC meeting
- Active participation in subspecialty specific tumor boards and slide conferences
- Active participation in center of excellence (COE) meetings
- Active participation in general tumor board as assigned by the Medical Director
- Active participation in CSMC institutional committees as assigned by the Medical Director
- Active participation in DPLM committees and ad hoc projects as assigned by the Medical Director
- The degree of research participation will be variable, depending on the interest, expertise, and academic history of the faculty member, as well as her/his agreement with the Chair, DPLM at the time of hiring. Ideally, however, all faculty should be able to, or should develop the capacity to, participate in research projects as coauthor, primary author or senior author and to mentor house staff in the first two roles.
- Faculty can either participate in collaborative research projects as coauthor or endeavor to develop an area of research expertise agreed to with the Chair, DPLM.
- In the latter case, faculty will be expected to author first‑or senior‑authored publications and to develop a national and (eventually) international reputation in their area of expertise commensurate with their academic rank.
- Depending on their extent of academic involvement, faculty will be expected to mentor other faculty as well as house staff in research design and publication strategies and in the planning of an academic career.
- Maintain pro‑departmental attitude/composure in dealings with house staff, hospital employees, administration, clinical staff
- Maintain supportive collegial relationship with peers
- Respond quickly to inquiries/taskings by leadership
- Observe patient and department confidentiality
- Observe DPLM/BP time away policy
- Observe compliance policies of DPLM
