Special Salary Information
  • Flat‑rate monthly bonus equal to 5.5 % of the appropriate P Schedule or D Schedule step based on experience.
  • Additional 20 % Recruitment & Retention Bonus for full‑time Physician Specialists hired by Correctional Health Services.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform specialized medical work and surgical procedures within a specialty field.
  • Prescribe drugs/therapy; monitor patients, record observations, and adjust treatments.
  • Conduct training or assist in training of interns and residents.
  • Consult with staff physicians and paramedical personnel regarding patient care.
  • Provide consultation to other medical services and specialists.
  • Conduct difficult post‑mortem examinations, training, and supervising other physicians.
  • Consult with toxicology professionals to determine causes of death.
  • Certify cause of death and testify as expert witness.
  • Assist in administrative duties, including budgeting, equipment needs, personnel functions, and workflow improvements.
  • Participate in health program planning and direction.
  • Develop new techniques within the specialty.
  • Maintain a rotating schedule to ensure on‑call coverage during non‑business hours.
  • Conduct specialized research, studies, and preventive and educational strategies.
Requirements
  • Complete a residency approved by an American Specialty Board or equivalent training. Certification must be in one of the following specialties:
    Family Practice, Internal Medicine, General/Endocrinology.
  • Valid California State Physician & Surgeon Certificate.
  • California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method.
  • Physical capability: moderate standing/walking most of the time, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching; lifting up to 25 lb; occasional 10–25 lb lifts.
  • Must attach a legible copy of residency completion certificate within 15 days of filing online.
Exam and Eligibility

Self‑assessment questionnaire (100%) covering experience, professional development, and collaboration. Candidates must achieve ≥70 % to be listed on the eligible register for 12 months.

No person may compete more than once every 12 months.

Eligible register will be used to fill vacancies within Integrated Correctional Health Services (ICHS).
