PositionThe Department of Biology at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure‑track faculty member in Microbiology or Molecular and Cellular Biology at the rank of Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate will teach Cell and Tissue Culture with Lab (BIOL 477/L); they may also teach Immunology with Serology Lab (BIOL 485/L), Medical Microbiology and Lab (BIOL 410/L), introductory and core courses for biology majors (e.g., BIOL 107, BIOL 315, BIOL 380), and a graduate‑level seminar course in the candidate's specialty. The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to develop an independent, externally funded research program that actively involves graduate and undergraduate students in an interdisciplinary area with emphasis on immunology, virology, microbiology, and/or cancer.
In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which they are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

- Ph.D. in cellular biology, molecular biology, microbiology, and/or immunology disciplines or a closely related field from an accredited institution
- College or University‑level teaching experience, as an instructor, in‑person
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research
- Research experience in an interdisciplinary area with emphasis on immunology, virology, microbiology, and/or cancer that will diversify the research currently represented in the Department
- Experience in writing and submitting grant applications
- Publication record in peer‑reviewed journals, including publications as first author
- Ability to teach a cell and tissue culture course
- At least one year of postdoctoral research experience as a postdoctoral associate, faculty member at another institution, or in industry
- Effective communication skills
- Evidence of developing, or potential to develop, an independent, externally funded research program that is feasible for success at CSUN and engages both undergraduate and graduate (MS) student researchers
