Hours:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Minimum of two and a half weekdays of availability to pick up or work scheduled shifts. Work schedules are created one month in advance. Guaranteed minimally 10 work hours available per week, with hours typically not to exceed 28 hours per week
Supervisory Responsibility: NONE
Under supervision of Program Supervisor, the Art Instructor Substitute will teach art to artists (adults with varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and intellectual disabilities) in the ECF Art Centers. This can include but is not limited to the following: painting, drawing, mixed media, fibers. Implement special education and behavior treatment plans. Work with assigned ECF Artists for scheduled shift, as assigned by Program Supervisor, Lead Art Instructor, Case Manager or point person as designated by Program Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Implement artistic, educational, and behavioral support plans for assigned consumers, referring to consumer's IPP, and as directed by Program Supervisor and Case Manager. Ensure ECF Artist's well-being during operating hours of the Art Center, while on the premises, and out in the community. Maintain case notes as needed during scheduled shift and submit these notes to Program Supervisor and, or Case Manager at end of work shift.
Participate in meetings and other in‑services trainings as assigned, monthly. Provide supervision during artists' arrival, departure, and lunchtime as assigned by Program Supervisor, Case Manager or designated point person. - Give instruction in the proper use of materials, care, and protection of artwork. Ensure the safe use of equipment, including basic safety measures to be used when working with various tools, machines, and materials, safe lifting procedures, etc. Monitor artists throughout their entire art projects during scheduled shift. Assist and instruct on projects assigned by Program Supervisor, Case Manager or point person as designated by Program Supervisor.
- Set up/prepare equipment to be used daily and maintain equipment. Ensure all art equipment is properly used and maintained by artists and assigned studio area is maintained and clean.
- Organize artists' portfolios by properly labeling and storing artwork in the appropriate areas, as assigned by Program Supervisor, Case Manager or point person as designated by Program Supervisor.
- Participate in staff meetings to identify and implement artistic, educational, psychological and social objectives for each artist. Consider addressing the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse artists. Implement services and supports in accordance with Lanterman Act and Person‑Centered Thinking Practices.
- Follow appropriate protocols and policies to assist artists during any incidents or seizures. Employ NCI procedures as needed to assist artists who are exhibiting aggressive behavior. Adhere to ECF's Illness and Injury Prevention Safety Program and follow ECF guidelines for reporting medical emergencies, suspected abuse or neglect and unusual incidents to case management staff and supervisory staff. Implement First Aid/CPR as necessary.
Assist artists with personal hygiene needs including illness, and incidents of incontinence. - Be available to help promote the Art Centers during work hours. This includes, but is not limited to, informing the public of the Art Center mission and services when the public is touring Art Center facilities, asking questions during events, or inquiring about how they can support the program. Support ECF Art Center events and programs through distribution of materials and information to all interested parties.
