Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Dean's Office is seeking a Senior Exchange Visitor Advisor to play a key role in administering UCLA’s J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. This position serves as a trusted advisor to university leadership, faculty, staff, and international scholars, ensuring full compliance with federal regulations and university policy. The Senior Exchange Visitor Advisor independently prepares and processes J-1 visa documentation and SEVIS records for a large population of international scholars and their dependents, provides expert guidance on maintaining lawful immigration status, and reviews complex cases and applications prepared by other professionals.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with campus partners, including the David Geffen School of Medicine, to develop and implement immigration policies, deliver J-1 training and workshops, and support continuous program improvement. You will also contribute to office operations, reporting, and compliance efforts while staying current on evolving immigration regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced immigration professional who thrives in a fast‑paced academic environment and is passionate about supporting international scholars and advancing institutional compliance.

Annual range: $78,500-$163,600

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of J-1 visa, understanding of various visas i.e., H-1B, O-1 visa and immigration.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact professionally and diplomatically with faculty, visa coordinators, foreign visitors.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively relay information and policies and procedures to others to follow a specific directive given to them. Ability to conduct workshops – speak and interact to a variety of audiences; staff, faculty, exchange visitors, upper management.
  • Skills in writing concise, clear and grammatically correct correspondence, reports, and training materials.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic accounting functions and principals with mathematical skills.
  • Computer skills to prepare and monitor funds, database, insurance report. Be able to use Word, Excel, Outlook, VITS system (internal tracking system).
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
