Position descriptionThe UCLA Music Performance, Education, and Composition Department in the Herb Alpert School of Music invites applications for a tenured or tenure‑track professorial position, starting the 2026-27 academic year. A minimum of a Master’s degree in violin performance or five years of equivalent professional experience is required; however, a DMA degree or five years of equivalent professional experience teaching in higher education, and maintaining a significant international performance and discography profile is preferred.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.

The Music Performance, Education, and Composition Department is seeking a distinguished individual with an international reputation in both performance and teaching, comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of repertoire, as well as demonstrated initiative in innovative projects. We seek someone who will contribute positively to our collaborative environment and mentor the next generation of performing artists and music educators. Duties include but are not limited to: teaching a studio of undergraduate and graduate violin majors, music education majors, coaching chamber music, sharing governing responsibilities in the string area, chairing and overseeing DMA violin student dissertations, serving on other DMA dissertation committees, collaborating with instrumental, vocal, and composition faculty;
and contributing to departmental/university service.
