Work Readiness Trainer

Manager OR Vice President, Work Readiness Training

Work Readiness Trainer accompanies all trainees assigned to work in a Homeboy business. Peer trainers are a key component of our re-entry model and service, providing guidance and direction to clients entering at different stages of rehabilitation and development. Work Readiness Trainers, graduates of our 18-month program, provide leadership and peer mentorship to trainees currently in the program. They are instrumental in assessing client adjustments to the workplace, provide insight for relapse prevention, and intervene to provide a safe learning community for all clients.

The Work Readiness Trainer is assigned to a Homeboy business and participates in day-to-day operations with a special focus on the work and well-being of trainees and on trainee development through their work readiness and training experiences. The Work Readiness Trainer supports trainee development toward work readiness by accompanying them on the job and coaching them on handling the day-to-day requirements of the workplace.

• Work with business managers to welcome trainees to business and clarify responsibilities and policies.
• Work side by side with trainees to model workplace behavior and support relationships with trainees.
• Build relationships with trainees to support their integration into the business and ability to work with team and supervisors.
• Maintain close communication with business managers to ensure the trainee is supported and hears a consistent message.
• Give trainees regular feedback on their growth and development with a focus on encouraging them to develop strength and independence. This may include corrective action.
• Work Readiness Trainer is responsible for tracking trainee attendance and completing timecards on the payroll system (Paycom).
• Work closely with business managers on setting and communicating daily goals and expectations.
• Always model professionalism to inspire and inform trainee development.
• Assist business managers in communication with trainees, as needed.
• Work Readiness Trainer does not take the place of the business manager. It is critical that they work together for the benefit of the trainee and that there is a good working relationship.
• Consult with and inform Case Managers and Employment Counselors frequently to provide coordinated support for trainee development.
• Other duties or tasks assigned by the VP Work Readiness Training OR Manager, Work Readiness Training.

• Develop and maintain comprehensive understanding of designated business functions and operational tasks to effectively oversee trainees working in those areas.
• Provide hands-on training and coaching to trainees on required processes and procedures.
• Collaborate with business managers to plan daily allocation of trainees to specific activities.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION:

• Successfully completed an 18-Month Program at Homeboy Industries
• Worked in a position outside of Homeboy for 3+ years
• Strong communication skills with direct reports, colleagues, supervisor and management.
• Commitment to continued growth as an individual and employee through training, recovery and therapy as an option
