Energy Division/ Electric Rates, Customer Generation, and Demand Response Branch/ Demand Response Section:
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is leading the state’s efforts to achieve net zero emissions, electrify buildings and transportation, and encourage deployment of customer-owned distributed energy resources (DERs). The Demand Response Section in the Energy Division of the CPUC is responsible for: developing and supporting innovative policies and initiatives related to demand response and demand flexibility management by customers leveraging device technologies, energy management tools, or behind-the-meter DERs (batteries, EVs, heat pumps, smart devices, etc.)

to change their energy consumption and provide grid services in response to dynamic rates or market signals; overseeing the development of cost‑effective utility and third‑party service provider programs for advanced demand flexibility management and integration with energy and capacity markets; contributing to the evaluation of utility and third‑party portfolios and programs; ensuring that utility and third‑party programs are being administered in accordance with Commission policies;

advancing statewide market transformation goals for electrification and DER adoption to complement evolving grid conditions.

Energy Division’s Demand Response Section is in search of dynamic, creative team members to assist in developing and implementing critical statewide policies to scale demand flexibility to help improve grid reliability, reduce emissions, and reduce electricity costs.
