Buro Happold is looking for an experienced building performance engineer to join our expanding team and be a leader in our Los Angeles office. You will be part of our hybrid Building Performance Team encompassing energy and whole life carbon analysis. You will work closely with our MEP engineers, and sustainability and energy advisory experts. We work across all scales including high performance buildings, campus, and cities.

Your next role:
As an associate building performance engineer, you will work across a range of projects, working as an integrated part of multiple project teams. You will work as project leader to meet the analytical needs of the projects (energy code approach, loads models, early-stage optioneering models, LEED energy model, high-performance analysis, renewable energy studies, district scale modeling, predictive energy modeling and more) and will be mentored by our building performance and MEP team leadership .
As part of this role, you will perform Job Leader responsibilities which include ensuring technical quality, timely delivery, financial performance, and client satisfaction in all matters relating to project analytics. As a leader on the Building Performance team in the LA office you will support work winning activities including scope and fee creation and proposal writing.
Required Skills:
- Extensive experience with energy modeling inputs, including model geometry creation and HVAC system modeling with IES Virtual Environment
- Extensive experience with Title 24, Part 6 code requirements and IESVE/CBECC-Com/Energy Pro compliance modeling and prescriptive documentation
- Experience with ASHRAE 90.1 compliance energy modeling and ASHRAE/IBPSA Standard 209
- Experience in visual scripting interfaces such as Grasshopper and Dynamo, and environmental Rhino plugins such as Honeybee, Ladybug, etc.
- Experience in quantifying and graphically reporting of energy conservation measures
- Experience in the analysis of renewable energy technologies such as geothermal and photovoltaics
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Advanced understanding of building physics and the ability to teach concepts to varying degrees
- Ability to understand client goals and communicate analysis results with architects
- Ability to operate independently, organize resources, and deliver to timelines
- Experience of modeling commonly designed mechanical systems
- Experience in presenting analytical information in a clear and concise manner
- Experience with project management including successfully managing the technical quality of deliverables, schedule, internal coordination, and financial performance associated with project analytics scope
Skills:
- Knowledge of energy audits and energy benchmarking of buildings
- Experience with parametric modeling and working with large datasets
- Strong proficiency with mechanical room and system thermal loads modeling and knowledge of mechanical system design
- Experience with sustainability rating systems used in the industry
- Experience with Energy Plus/Open Studio or other whole building energy modeling software
- Experience of modeling uncommonly designed mechanical systems
- Completion of LEED energy model submittals
