Overview

We are seeking Field Utility Coordinator to support major infrastructure projects across the Energy, Transportation, and Water sectors. This role is responsible for performing utility investigations, analyzing conflicts, and coordinating with utility owners and regulatory agencies to ensure timely relocation and compliance. The Utility Coordinator will contribute technical expertise, maintain accurate utility data, and assist in preparing documentation such as conflict matrices, relocation agreements, permits, and utility agreements.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of subsurface utility engineering (SUE), relocation strategies, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to communicate with agencies and utility owners. Working closely with senior staff, this position offers the opportunity to take ownership of coordination tasks while developing professional skills in complex project environments. - Assist with utility clearance activities, including desktop research, field investigations, and data collection.
- Support the preparation of utility conflict matrices, schedules, relocation agreements, and permit applications.
- Help maintain GIS-based utility data systems by entering and verifying information for project teams.
- Prepare draft reports, maps, and design documentation to support coordination meetings and agency reviews.
- Provide administrative and technical support during coordination with utility owners and regulatory agencies.
- Learn and apply ASCE 38-22 standards and industry best practices in utility research and conflict resolution.
- Shadow senior coordinators during meetings with Caltrans, municipalities, and utility agencies to gain exposure to regulatory processes.
- Assist in tracking project deliverables and maintaining organized records of utility correspondence and agreements.
- Collaborate with colleagues across divisions to support integrated project delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2-5 years of professional experience in utility coordination, relocation, and subsurface investigations required
- Knowledge of ASCE 38-22, relocation strategies, and regulatory requirements required
- Utility coordinator experience with wet and dry utility systems and right-of-way considerations required
- Familiarity with Caltrans procedures and alternative delivery methods (design-build)
- Good communication skills with the ability to collaborate with utility clients and customers, engineers, inspectors, and construction crews
- OSHA 20 training preferred
- Experience with GIS-based utility databases and Micro Station/AutoCAD for plotting utilities in 2D/3D preferred
- Proficient in the MS Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work primarily in the field and occasionally in office, including travel to various project sites
Pay Range: $70,000 - $100,000 per year
Work Location:
4-5 days per week in the field and office in the Southern California area
Travel: 80% travel to field sites within the Southern California area
Visa Sponsorship:
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.A. on a full-time basis without sponsorship
Physical Requirements:
Ability to pass a pre-authorized physical including a drug-screening and background check
