Sr Hardware & PCB Design Engineer - Lunar Permanence

Blue Origin is developing reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which designs Blue Moon landers and related products to support sustainable lunar infrastructure for crew and cargo transport.

Responsibilities
  • Create detailed and accurate electronic schematics using industry‑standard tools such as Altium or Cadence.
  • Ensure schematics are well documented and adhere to best practices for readability and maintainability.
  • Perform comprehensive worst‑case circuit analysis to ensure robustness under extreme conditions.
  • Utilize simulation tools to validate circuit performance across a range of operating conditions.
  • Conduct thorough parts stress analysis to ensure components operate within their rated capabilities.
  • Identify potential failure modes and implement design improvements to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure optimal component placement, routing, and grounding strategies are employed.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans covering all functional and non‑functional requirements.
  • Define detailed test procedures and acceptance criteria for each test case.
  • Create and review manufacturing documents, including schematics, layouts, and bills of materials.
  • Bring newly designed boards to life in the lab, ensuring a smooth transition from design to prototype.
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues through systematic analysis and the use of specialized test equipment.
  • Execute test plans in a laboratory setting to verify that boards meet all specified requirements.
  • Document test results and perform root cause analysis on any discrepancies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in design, development, and test of PCBs including schematics and layouts.
  • A breadth of understanding and expertise in electronics hardware development such as advanced circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or aerospace products.
  • Experience designing and testing analog, high‑speed digital, or mixed‑signal circuits, including part selection, analysis, simulation, laboratory testing, and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of signal‑integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles.
  • Experience with high‑speed serial bus design and optimization.
  • Experience with schematic‑capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer (preferable) or Cadence OrCAD / Cadence Allegro tool suites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • 10+ years of experience in design, development, and test of PCBs including schematics and layouts.
  • Familiarity with many parts and their usage: ADCs, DACs, OpAmps, power supplies (linear, LDO, DC/DC), microcontrollers, processors.
  • Experience collaborating with RF engineering teams for PCB layout and schematic capture.
  • Experience integrating RF hardware layouts with analog and mixed‑signal circuits for space applications across multiple frequency bands to include millimeter waves.
  • Experience with integrating models and analysis from tools like MATLAB and/or Simulink, ANSYS HFSS and/or FEKO.
  • Experience leading efforts in collaboration with multi‑functional teams for up‑screening and qualification of automotive‑grade parts for use in space environments.
  • Familiarity with space hardware testing standards and practices for communication systems.
