This opportunity entails being responsible for providing environmental support from concept development through project completion including researching, gathering, and analyzing data, preparing project materials, and applying environmental law and policy to ensure compliance on behalf of the client. This position collaborates and communicates with clients and the community, creating and delivering presentations and reports. May function as environmental task lead and/or deputy task lead.

Anticipated to provide technical guidance and mentorship to earlier career staff.

What You’ll Do:
  • Analyzes and reviews the design plan and identifies deliverables.
  • Leads planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
  • Leads tasks under general direction related to compiling and analyzing data associated with multi‑disciplines and proposes technical solutions. Collects raw data, organizes, researches, and applies recognized tools of analysis to provide comprehensive review of the data.
  • Prepares graphics, technical reports, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for planning projects.
  • Creates project presentation materials, concepts, graphics, and reports to the client and community groups.
  • Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation. Conducts public meetings/hearings/community workshops and interfaces with client groups and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with clients, sub‑consultants, and in‑house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assists in directing teams for tasks for projects.
  • Mentors and provides direction on the work of less experienced staff.
  • Assists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFPs for projects.
  • Develops and maintains client meetings and interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 5 years of relevant experience.
What You’ll Bring :
  • In‑depth knowledge of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) environmental review process and Standard Environmental Reference.
  • Experience in preparing and implementing regulatory permits and coordinating with regulatory agencies.
  • Operates Microsoft Project and client‑specific programs with proficiency and remains current on updates.
  • Displays knowledge about process and oversees implementation and updates to the schedule, budget, and/or deliverables for the programs. Guides others to complete processes.
  • Serves as the Task Lead for moderate‑complexity projects with the ability to contribute to writing scopes and budgets with minimal oversight.
  • Develops an advanced understanding of environmental laws (i.e., NEPA, local, state and federal) and ensures legal compliance. Applies knowledge to more complex documents, provides recommendations to the client, and ensures permits are completed. Oversees and reviews the work of less experienced staff.
  • Prepares the scope of work, budget, and schedule as part of a task expansion or new proposal with minimal oversight.
  • Prepares environmental review documents for more complex transportation projects with guidance from senior staff or the Project Manager. Serves as the Environmental Task Lead for environmental documents independently. Reviews and oversees the work of less experienced staff.
What We Prefer:
  • Prior experience working directly with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and other California regulatory agencies.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
