At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products.

To further Blue Origin's mission, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems in a fast‑paced, often uncertain environment, demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail while working directly with NASA and National Team Partners under the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program.

In this role, you will be responsible for the development and integration of thermal components across the Blue Moon Crew Lander as part of the SLD Crew Lander Thermal Systems Engineering Vehicle Team. You will drive component and system requirement development, determine performance requirements, interfaces, and allocated resources (mass, power, etc.) for critical thermal components, and ensure the design, delivery, and integration of spacecraft thermal components.

You will also oversee all technical, programmatic, and cost aspects of the assigned thermal component, ensuring it is fully qualified before vehicle assembly and system‑level testing.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of spacecraft thermal engineering experience
  • First principles understanding of heat transfer and thermodynamics; ability to perform simple hand calculations
  • Strong grasp of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and mechanical design
  • Experience and ability to work independently on rapid development programs
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, sizing, building, testing, verifying, and validating aerospace hardware
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • 15+ years of relevant experience with spacecraft thermal systems or component design
  • Master’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or related engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to own hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team, specifically spacecraft active thermal control hardware, systems, or deployable mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
  • Vendor technical management and product delivery experience
  • Professional experience applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Proficient in a collaborative team environment, frequently interacting with engineers, managers, and program leadership
  • Highly self‑motivated with strong organizational and written/oral communication skills – able to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast‑paced environment
