POSITION
PURPOSE:
The R&D / New Product Introduction Leader will play a pivotal role in advancing Capstone Green Energy’s technology and product portfolio, guiding innovative microturbine solutions from concept through commercialization. This role bridges strategic technological development with hands‑on experimentation, ensuring that new products are technologically advanced, cost‑effective, and aligned with customer and market needs.
The successful candidate will be both a visionary and a tinkerer — someone energized by exploring ideas, testing limits, and breaking down complex problems to uncover why systems don’t work as expected. This role requires curiosity, resilience, and a passion for iteration, with the ability to turn lessons learned into practical solutions that drive progress.
Reporting to the Vice President of Technology, this individual will lead multidisciplinary teams while also rolling up their sleeves to prototype, stress‑test, and refine. The R&D / New Product Introduction Leader will be expected to think boldly, experiment relentlessly, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement that accelerates Capstone Green Energy’s competitive advantage.
Duties And Responsibilities- Lead the strategic planning and execution of R&D initiatives and new product introductions (NPI) from concept market launch.
- Develop and manage technology roadmaps, ensuring alignment with the company’s product strategy and customer requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, and Product Management teams to define product specifications, business cases, and market entry strategies.
- Responsible for ensuring effective collaboration with Operations and Supply Chain to guarantee a seamless transition from development to full‑scale manufacturing.
- Oversee cross‑functional teams in engineering design, prototyping, qualification, and transition into manufacturing.
- Manage technical, schedule, and budgetary aspects of projects, ensuring adherence to milestones and delivery of objectives.
- Establish partnerships with external vendors, universities, and research institutions for technology advancement and innovation.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, quality standards, and company policies throughout the product lifecycle.
- Mentor and develop R&D staff, fostering an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and high performance.
- Provide technical oversight and perform critical reviews to ensure projects meet or exceed established standards.
- Participate actively in intellectual property strategy, including patent filings and protection strategies.
Required
- Demonstrated expertise in power generation or in related fields such as automotive, aircraft engines, or other complex energy systems.
- Proven ability to effectively lead multidisciplinary teams in product development and technology innovation.
- Strong experience in managing product life cycles from concept through commercialization.
- Solid understanding of project management principles, including schedule, budget, and risk management.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical requirements into actionable engineering and business plans.
- Strategic thinker with a balance of innovation and practical execution capabilities.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering tools, CAD software, and simulation/modeling techniques.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment and manage multiple concurrent projects effectively.
- Expertise in microturbine technologies.
- Proven track record of leading new product introduction, ideally within microturbine, energy generation, or related industries.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and standards relevant to power generation.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management credentials (highly desirable).
