Position: Senior Electrical Estimator/Engineer

Salary Range: $62 – $67 hourly

Type: Full‑time

Employee Benefits: NO PER DIEM. These are W2, long‑term jobs with full benefits. NO relocation packages.

Position Summary

The Electrical/IT Inspector will support LAWA’s electrical construction inspection and work as a member of LAWA Quality Assurance & Construction across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program.

Professional Experience Level /

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 years or more experience performing electrical/IT inspections for building construction.
  • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Electrical Inspector.
  • Proof of NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years.
  • Proof of Cal‑OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years.
  • Training & knowledge of NFPA 70, 70E, & 72.
  • Fall protection and harness training.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience at the journeyman level as an electrician, with a focus on installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settings.
  • Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects.
  • Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials.
  • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards.
  • Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency.
  • A strong understanding of diverse code requirements.
  • Excellent communication and time‑management skills.
Essential

Job Duties
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, and review & interpret construction documents including blueprints, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Prepare comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities.
  • Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA‑specific standards.
  • Track and document time‑and‑material work, field changes, and job quantities.
  • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third‑party agencies as needed.
  • Perform inspections of electrical installations including underground utilities and duct banks; high‑voltage switch gear and electrical panels; conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems; interior and exterior lighting systems; fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM‑200 suppression systems; electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination.
  • Inspect IT infrastructure installations such as low‑voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control); door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems; communication cabling and equipment rooms.
Hardware/Software Knowledge
  • Knowledge of project management information software used for inspection/document control (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam).
  • Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently.
Education / Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • For tasks on the airfield, 3 years or more of experience with airfield lighting is required.
Element‑Specific Requirements/Notes
  • May assume other duties as required.
  • May be required to work various shifts, including day, swing, and night.
  • Shall be open to work modified schedules, including nights and weekends, as dictated by the contractors' work activities and accelerated project schedules.
  • Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks is preferred.
