Safety Engineering Specialist

Job Description:

This individual will be located at a production facility in Southern California that is quietly innovating the plastics sector. The organization has been established for approximately two decades and has been steadily growing during that time. In addition to producing raw materials, they also manufacture their own goods and this individual will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental and safety laws while contributing as a process engineer.

The company has around 75 employees in total and this position reports to the EH&S Director. Although the facility operates as if it is subject to PSM regulations, it is not governed by OSHA PSM standards. They are subject to cGMP regulations due to the production of items intended for human consumption.

Outlined below are some of the daily/monthly duties associated with this role:

Collaborate with colleagues to guarantee that lockout/tagout procedures are accessible and current

Conduct monthly in-person EH&S training sessions

Conduct regular EH&S inspections

Participate in safety meetings and safety committee teams on weekends

Develop EH&S related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Member of the 24-hour HAZWOPER team Handle administrative tasks utilizing internal EH&S software systems

Assist with permit-required environmental tasks (wastewater, storm water, air quality, etc)

Minimum Requirements:

B.S. degree in Engineering (Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety, etc)3+ years of prior experience in manufacturing, preferably in chemical or materials production
40-hour HAZWOPER certification is preferred (24-hour certification is acceptable)
Open to candidates with prior experience as an EH&S Engineer, or a process engineer with a willingness to learn

Train the Trainer certification in LOTO/Confined Space/Fall protection, or similar technical field
