The Treasurer will be responsible for overseeing the financial health of the healthcare organization, ensuring effective management of financial resources, cash flow, investments, and funding for ongoing and capital projects. This role requires strong financial management skills, knowledge of healthcare finance, regulatory requirements, and the ability to collaborate closely with the executive team, CFO, and other department heads.
Key Responsibilities- Cash and Liquidity Management:
Monitor cash flow and manage short- and long-term liquidity to ensure the availability of funds for day-to-day operations and capital expenditures. - Ensure the healthcare organization has sufficient funds to cover operational costs, including payroll, vendor payments, and patient care expenses.
- Oversee cash management systems and practices to optimize working capital.
- Capital Structure & Financing:
Develop strategies to secure financing for capital projects, such as new facilities, medical equipment, and technology investments. - Manage relationships with lenders, investors, and financial institutions to negotiate lines of credit, loans, and bond issuances.
- Oversee debt management and evaluate the organization’s capital structure.
- Investment Strategy & Management:
Oversee the investment portfolio for the organization’s excess cash, ensuring adherence to investment policies and risk tolerance. - Manage investments for retirement funds, employee benefit plans, and other long-term financial assets.
- Continuously assess investment opportunities to support the financial health of the healthcare company.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance:
Work with the accounting and finance teams to prepare accurate financial statements and reports. - Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific financial regulations.
- Oversee audits, ensuring timely completion and addressing any issues raised by external auditors.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
Lead the financial planning and budgeting processes. - Provide financial analysis and insights to support executive decision-making and long-term planning.
- Review and monitor departmental budgets, ensuring adherence and highlighting areas for cost control.
- Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate financial risks related to reimbursement fluctuations, regulatory changes, and reimbursement cycles. - Oversee the organization’s insurance programs, ensuring appropriate coverage for medical malpractice, general liability, and other risks.
- Advise on the potential financial impact of healthcare policy changes and ensure preparedness for shifting regulations.
- Strategic Financial Leadership:
Collaborate with the executive team to develop strategic plans that align financial goals with the company’s mission and growth objectives. - Provide expert financial advice in areas such as mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures in the healthcare sector.
- Ensure that financial policies and procedures are in place to safeguard assets, improve operational efficiency, and align with healthcare best practices.
- Grant and Fundraising Management:
Oversee fundraising initiatives, including managing philanthropic contributions, grants, and endowments. - Work with development and marketing teams to support revenue-generating activities and secure donations for healthcare-related projects.
- Internal Controls and Audit:
Implement and maintain strong internal controls to prevent fraud and errors in financial reporting. - Lead the annual audit process and ensure compliance with internal and external auditing requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in financial management, with at least 2 years in a senior role in a healthcare organization.
