Under the direction of the Deputy Labor Commissioner III (Senior Deputy), this position proactively investigates wage claims to evaluate compliance with the law.
Responsibilities- Investigate claims to evaluate compliance with labor laws and wage and hour statutes.
- Interview workers, hold settlement conferences, and resolve disputes prior to adjudication of claims.
- Gather relevant facts, apply theories of liabilities to assess violations, and educate the public on labor laws.
- Perform a wide variety of enforcement duties within the Wage and Compensation Administration (WCA) program.
This position requires bilingual proficiency in Spanish. Applicants must also meet the standard California State civil service requirements (employment‑list eligibility, lateral transfer, reinstatement, or surplus eligibility). Candidates who are eligible for list or LEAP, or who have SROA and/or surplus eligibility, receive priority.
Special RequirementsFluency in Spanish is mandatory. If you do not have documentation of fluency, you must pass an approved language test before hiring.
